Entrepreneur Takes Companies To The ‘MAX’

GREATER SPRINGFIELD — Wilbraham native Adam Skiba, 28, has learned a few lessons courtesy of the School of Hard Knocks. His first business venture, a Tonka truck tag sale at his home on Pigeon Drive at the age of six, was a flop but that was only the beginning.

Determined to face fear head-on, Skiba spent the next 22 years learning successful economic models and gaining business savvy before taking a literal leap (by jumping out of a plane) to start his own: SKYMAX – a Massachusetts Internet Marketing Company.

“I was trying to break through the fear and it ultimately came out physically by undertaking the sport of skydiving. I physically faced my fears, but it was of course more mental. I realized I could conquer any and all fear, and from that point SKYMAX was born,” Skiba recalled.

His company caters to businesses seeking a stronger presence on the internet by focusing on SEO Web Design, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and high performance Internet Marketing.

SEO goes beyond just embedding keywords into a website, Skiba explained, “It is the driving force behind every successful website that ranks highly in the search engines.”

The first step is to optimize, update or completely redesign a client’s website to “optimize for your specific market and convert browsers into buyers,” he said.

Skiba cautioned against business owners creating their own websites because “they’re business owners, not web designers.” There are many facets of web design and optimization that a novice is unaware of, he added, noting that even typical web design companies lack thorough SEO training.

A website design must include keywords, SEO link building and emphasis must be made to develop mobile, e-mail and social marketing in order to raise its position on search engines such as Yahoo, Google or MSN Bing to increase traffic, Skiba said.

Clients also need help establishing themselves in the local and global marketplaces through the use of social media and interactive marketing strategies as opposed to viewing static information, he explained.

“Video is really the big thing [right now]. The computer is becoming the new TV. People want to know who you are and what you’re about. [Video] is truly the future of the internet,” Skiba advised.

When asked about his plans for the future of SKYMAX, Skiba replied, “In one year I’d like to be recognized as the premier Internet Marketing and SEO Company in Western Massachusetts. SKYMAX is my passion and I want to build the brand.”

“I want to help businesses in the area gain that competitive edge and get Springfield out of this economic slump that we’re in. As kids growing up, we could always feel safe, but things are much different now,” he continued. “My heart will always be in Western Massachusetts, and my plans for economic improvement and commercial real estate development will have nothing but positive implications for the Western Massachusetts area.”

Skiba noted he also welcomes non-profit organizations that “are looking to reach a broader audience locally, yet are lacking a large marketing budget.” Such clients include Lorraine’s Soup Kitchen in Chicopee and Harmony House in Holyoke, he added.

Skiba said in five or 10 years he’d like to expand SKYMAX into the global marketplace with offices abroad but noted that he’ll always remain grounded in Western Massachusetts.

hey there, this might be little offtopic, but i am hosting my site on hostgator and they will suspend my hosting in 4days, so i would like to ask you which hosting do you use or recommend?

    • SkyMax says:

James, I’m sorry to hear that – make sure your backup is current! We host our own servers in-house, as well as dedicated virtual servers at various off-site locations for the ultimate SEO advantage.

If Host Gater is giving you problems, I would recommend Go Daddy for their reliability and Crocker Communications in Springfield, Massachusetts for their fantastic customer support.

Hi, I was looking at this page with the iPhone and this appears kind of odd. I thought you would like to be aware of this. It’s actually a very good article though, did not mess that up.

It certainly can be a challenge optimizing for all platforms and browsers. It appears that there are some slight overlapping of lines on this particular article on the iPhone browser. I just checked on my Blackberry and everything looks great. There’s always some give and take with browser optimizing – thanks for keeping us informed!

Hey, what do you think about the new Google automatic search fill-out feature? Will this impact my existing search rankings do you think? BTW – love the design of your site and blog!

    • SkyMax says:

I personally think it’s quite annoying, but that’s just my opinion! This new feature won’t have any negative impact on your search rankings, but I have a new article in the works that delves a little deeper into the subject.

Remember this, as marketers we need to conform and change as consumers change their searching and clicking habits. This new feature may change the way consumers search, in turn, will have an impact on our overall search engine optimization strategies and techniques. Stay tuned – more to come!
